Songbird

Zamboni.SilouetteI

Songbird

Rip away my skin,

my hummingbird wings,

my warbler’s voice

will scream with pain

but for a moment.

Take away my bones

parchment thin,

hard steel once

when young.

What’s left?

A hidden song

caged in my still beating heart.

Rip away the world

the song remains

a dirge for peace, love, no regrets.
