Cracker Boy Poem
In the summer we danced to wind chime music
back when I was white and cracker
Now I’m blue, I like being blue the color of lakes and jelly beans
you stopped loving cracker boy turned blue
not blue enough you said someone said too blue
brutal beatings kick in face showed red blood
I am red inside why can’t that be good enough?
Gotta be cracker or brown sugar chocolate milk
not the Christmas cookie bittersweet morsel.
So I turned blue the color of lakes and jelly beans
the color of my heart and your dreams
all blue all blue all blue
the flag is red, white, and me.
